Random Thoughts

Hello once again. Well summer is half over and so far we've survived the heat with no air-conditioning (knock-on-wood). Having our whole house fan that Scott installed last summer has helped tremendously as well as putting up our pool to cool off in. I do think our air conditioner broke at the end of last season for a reason, as it has saved us some $$$ this year not running it. And though we are really trying to cut back on spending right now, I'm not sure on a few of these over 100 degree days I would have been stoic enough to NOT turn the air on.

Scott's still "working" on establishing his own company and I'm really rooting for him to make a go of this because it is really nice having him here with us and with his "flex" schedule. I'm hoping things pick up (they seem to be on that track-fingers crossed). Like so many around the country we've "tightened" our money belts. Lucky for us I've always been "ahem" frugal. Though I've realized recently there are even more cut backs we can and are making and am thankful that our savings and frugalness has taken us 9 months without a steady income.

Off to another subject (hence "Random Thoughts")....

Leah will officially start Kindergarten this school year. And as many of my friends get ready to send their children off to their very FIRST day of school in a few short weeks, I realize that I won't be experiencing any of their anxiety, melancholy or trepidition that come with the VERY FIRST day of school. But with that also comes the fact that I won't have their "freedom". Time to shop without children, get chores completed without children underfoot, meet friends for coffee, or write The Great American Novel. Of course, even if I sent Leah to school, I would not have these "freedoms", as I would still have Nolan :), but I digress...For me, the trade-off of going without a few "freedoms" is well worth the cause.

For those that are not aware, we are homeschooling Leah (and eventually Nolan). This has been a thought and eventually a plan of ours since I was pregnant with Leah. All the reading, researching and planning are coming to fruition and we are finally here at the beginning of our journey. Although truthfully our journey of teaching our children began at their birth.

I am very excited (and a bit nervous) as we approach September and the start of our "semi-official" school year. I say "semi-official" because in the State of California-a child is NOT required to attend Kindergarten, which means I don't have to be accountable to anyone this school year. With that said, I am being held accountable by Leah, myself & Scott as we set our goals for the year and with that I've created my own homeschool blog to help me in my accountabilty.

Next "Random Thought"...

I'm going to post a few pictures, but in truth, I've not taken as many photos over the last few months. Mainly because my favorite camera of choice is no longer in good working order (to my standards) and needs to be repaired; and I'm using a camera that was free to us, and in my opinion does not turn out as quality photos as I like. Hence, I take less photos :( Perhaps someday I'll be able to get my camera fixed, or purchase a new camera as I'm sure the cost will be the same. It is a 6 year old camera. Which doesn't seem that old at all, but I know that cameras have probably been upgraded since then :) Anyway-you'll find some photos from our Annual trek to the Amador County fair on the side-bar. The slideshow has photos from our 4th of July camping trip that we took with 4 other families and a Cinderella play that Mema & I took Leah and her friend Raegan to go see. Most of those photos turned out blurry though, so not any good ones of Mema & the girls :(

That is all our happening for now. We'll keep you posted on any further adeventures.
